Midsummer Salix Pain Relief Balm

Note: This batch has taken on a slightly grainy texture, which naturally happens to shea butter over time and does not take away from the effectiveness of the product. It simply has a less smooth texture in the container, but still melts beautifully when it comes into contact with the skin. Due to this minor defect, I have placed this item on sale!

Not only is this creamy, spreadable balm great as an all-purpose body balm for dry skin, but it's also packed with some of the most widely revered herbs for pain relief.

Sometimes called “the aspirin plant,” willow was the first plant from which salicylic acid was isolated in 1828. High in salicin, willow modulates inflammation and relieves pain. It is commonly used for backaches, muscular soreness, headaches, and arthritis, and can be used for any ailment for which you would take an OTC anti-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It's also an astringent and can be used to help tighten and tone broken tissue while relieving pain.

St. John’s wort can be a powerful remedy for nerve pain and joint pain. Many eclectic herbalists recommended St. John’s wort specifically for spinal injuries and sciatica. (It's been extremely helpful for my own sciatica in the past!)

Also contains arnica and camphorweed, which are unparalleled in the herbal world for helping to heal bruises, strains, sprains, and contusions.

NOTE: Shea butter has a tendency to turn "grainy" when exposed to variable temperatures. This does not affect the efficacy or quality of the product in any way, and still melts when exposed to skin. If you'd like to return it to its creamy texture, just melt it down in a double boiler and put it back in the jar, letting it harden in the fridge.
